Brazilian soccer coach Rene Simoes named has been recently designated as national coach Costa Rica by the Costa Rican Soccer Federation in an effort to bring fortune to the team in the ongoing qualifying round for World Cup Soccer.
The record of Costa Rica in the tournament is woeful under its former coach Rodrigo Kenton who failed to score a single goal in their last three World Cup qualifiers.
With the entry of Simoes, Costa Rica Professional Soccer officials are hopeful that the nation can still made it since their new personnel is a known winner in the world of professional soccer.
Among professional soccer players and his peers, Simoes, 56, is best known for leading Jamaica to their first and only World Cup appearance in 1998.
Simoes is also credited for coaching the Brazilian women's team that won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Costa Rica are currently fourth of six teams in the final round of the CONCACAF standings, with two matches to go.
The top three teams qualify automatically for next year's World Cup while the fourth-placed side will go into a
two-leg playoff against the fifth-placed finisher from the South American qualifiers.
